Why Charli XCX Is Selling Her Clothes on Depop

Her Depop e-store, found at @itsCharliXCXbaby, will include shoppable pieces worn in her recent “Used to Know Me” music video, including her pink cheerleader outfit and a glitzy Mugler bodysuit. “I was really sad to let it go,” Charli says of the custom Mugler. “But someone else is going to bring it to life again in a completely new way.”  There’s also a huge array of sunglasses (she’s a big collector), and even some viral items too, like a silver spandex sports bra she wore back in 2018. “There’s this viral video of me singing my song ‘Girls Night Out’ in, whilst jumping up and down,” says Charli. “Because of the material, it made my boobs look absolutely insane.”

As for what the singer enjoys buying from Depop herself, she’s been recently eyeing some items from the shop Toy Couture. “They do a lot of vintage designer [clothes],” says Charli. “They also have cute, vintage Care Bear T-shirts that I’m really into.” Her favorite things to buy secondhand in general? “Leather goods are always really good to get vintage, I like that there’s a wear and tear to them,” she says. “When things are a little bit worn, it just looks cooler and more lived-in.” Though she loves the patina of pre-loved clothing, she shops secondhand primarily to be kinder to the planet. “You can give these clothes a new story and a new lease on life,” says Charli. “You get to create your own story with that item of clothing. And of course, it helps empower a more positive fashion ecosystem.”

In addition to encouraging sustainable shopping, Charli’s Depop store has a charitable component as well. 100 percent of the proceeds will be donated to GLITS (Gays and Lesbians in a Transgender Society), a grassroots organization that is dedicated to supporting the global LGBTQ+ community. Given her large queer fanbase, the singer felt it was a necessary step. “It’s important for me to give back to a community that’s been so supportive of me,” she says.
